19:47 paulproteus Howdy everybody.
19:48 I just noticed that "tiers" sounds like "tears".
19:48 That is all.

21:10 * paulproteus sniffles at paroneayea's remark
21:11 paulproteus z3p: BTW, in general, I'm very pleased and impressed with Miro Community.
21:11 You too, paroneayea.
21:11 Can you say a bit more about where the feature and design and code layout ideas came from, historically?
21:11 e.g. the admin screens are quite tidy.
21:12 It's nice that it's quite a Django-esque site, in that there is a clear group of admins whose job is mostly control the content of the site.
21:12 Nice in the sense that it's easy to re-apply Django paradigms, since it grew up in the newspaper website industry.
21:41 paroneayea paulproteus: well I'm not sure how much it has deviated in the design but
21:41 in the initial rounds, the admin interface was actually due to Dean saying he wanted people to be able to go search out videos, and also mark videos in the queue as appropriate / not appropriate from feeds
21:42 so the search comment actually is the reason for the design as it's designed to look like Google Video kind of :)
21:42 I thought the way google video handles search for videos looked really nice
21:42 with the search on top, thumbnail and title on the left, and the currently selected video on playing on the right
21:44 as for the schema design and etc, yeah, tried to map to Django paradigms of administration as much as possible.  I think everything came together from there
21:44 the original spec for miro community sounded something like Everyblock for video
21:45 but then it "found itself" as a more general system of not just video for neighborhoods, but video aggregation for subjects also (like python miro community)
21:46 I'm glad you like the codebase, and glad it was passed into highly capable hands between you and z3p :)

22:19 paulproteus (-: paroneayea
22:19 It's interesting; I've never really worked on anything that's as much of a "product" as MC before.
22:20 CC projects were mostly little things here and there, and didn't have as well-nailed-down requirements.
22:20 MC is kind of mature at this point, and has a pretty good sense of cohesion to it in the UI, I feel.
22:20 The OpenHatch feature-set is also still subject to my random thinking.
22:21 paroneayea paulproteus: yes that's one of the strange thing of the "trying to do more public blogging on CC labs"
22:22 a lot of the stuff I'm working on, most people aren't really seeing them as programs or libraries
22:22 I'm maintining services.
22:23 (I think the more public blogging on CC labs is a good idea though, even though it's a bit strange with the way things are)
22:24 paulproteus: btw, I suggested maybe since we wanted to show off how easy it is to make things semantically metadata'able with RDFa that I should submit patches to miroguide or miro community to RDFa them up
22:24 everyone liked the idea but was lukewarm to the idea of spending any time on it
22:24 paulproteus Heh.
22:25 <troll level="half">You should sell it not just as you working on it, but as part of a strategy to get the posts on Hacker News and Reddit and other places and thereby get the CC Labs blog more readers.</troll>
22:25 paroneayea haha
22:25 hmm
22:26 we're on planet python now
22:27 paulproteus: the web already has a <troll> tag though, and it's <blink>!
22:30 </troll>
22:30 </blink
22:30 >
22:31 paulproteus </paulproteus>
22:31 I actually think that 25% of CC engineers' time should be spent on "CC tech PR".
22:32 But I'm not your boss (-:
22:34 paroneayea Paul wanted to hear about CC and card tech!
22:34 hokay back to cc.engine stuffs :)
22:35 * paulproteus chuckles (-:
22:36 paulproteus BTW, you were asking me how I like the Kinesis keyboard.
22:36 I think I was hoping for more of magic bullet.
22:36 My hands do still hurt sometimes, but never sharply, so far.
22:36 They used to hurt sharply intermittently.
22:37 My near-my-elbow has dull pain sometimes, too. I'll schedule a doctor's appointment when I switch to my new insurance in the start of next year.
22:37 paroneayea I don't think there's any hand-pain magic bullets :\
22:37 but, if it is an improvement, that is good to hear
22:37 paulproteus: programmers with RSI will be responsible for the singularity
22:38 it starts with brain-interface keyboards
22:40 it'll be distressing to watch once the visual overlays hit
22:41 uwe_ joined #miro-hackers
22:41 paroneayea programmers just laying on the couch, eyes staring off into the distance, drool running down the cheek
22:41 "I'm being so productive"
22:43 at that point there will be a problem with programmers, graphic designers, and other computer professionals just never getting up and moving around for concern of losing focus
22:43 a new chair will be developed which "exercises" the body by shaking it vigorously.
22:44 eventually the digital representation of a human will be more important than the actual appearance of a human, and we will be devolve into blobs on slabs wired into the network
22:44 that is how it happens
22:44 Thanks!  I hope you enjoyed tonight's storytime.
