00:07 zanoi would anyone mind trying to reproduce bug17057? I'm wondering if it's a problem with my windows install.
00:14 also I could really use some crash-related bugs to work on, if anyone has any to spare

10:52 willkg hi!
11:18 glee: WindowsError is a subclass of OSError.  so the changes you just made aren't correct.
11:18 glee: are you absolutely positive you were seeing instances where WindowsError wasn't caught in a try/except block that catches OSError?
11:19 glee: can you write up a test case so that i can see what's going on?
11:19 glee willkg: One second, let me double check.
11:20 willkg: Oh, if that's the case I think I can back that bit out - one case wasn't catching OSError anyway so it would've applied to all platforms.
11:20 willkg glee: please back out the WindowsError specific stuff.
11:21 glee willkg: 3e55d6394
11:21 willkg glee: also, can you revert 79ddda2c?
11:21 glee: the chatter stuff is there for unit tests.  i think ben put that in.  so you should talk with him before removing it.
11:22 glee willkg: Ah yes found it - I'll revert and put comment in.
11:22 willkg ok, thanks!
11:22 shame ben isn't on.  i think he's the one that broke the unit tests last night.

11:23 willkg glee: the webm conversion change you made--did you test that on all three platforms?
11:23 glee willkg: Should only be OS X specific.
11:23 willkg glee: why is that?  shouldn't it work on windows and linux, too?
11:24 glee willkg: New Perian had webm - so I put the conversion stuff back in.  If Linux and Windows can play webm too, they can go in as well.
11:25 willkg glee: can you test that on all three platforms and fix the only_on if it works on all three?  if it doesn't work on one of the platforms, i'd rather nix it for all of them.
11:25 glee willkg: I'm pretty sure it doesn't work on Windows given that the VLC we have is ancient.
11:26 willkg glee: VLC doesn't do conversions.
11:26 glee: so what "it" are you talking about?
11:27 glee willkg: I'm talking about, after it gets converted, you cannot play it back, so it gets stuck into the "Others category".  Previously only the ffmpeg on the Mac can do conversion to webm, so it was marked as Mac OS X only.  But that feature got backed out by you, because webm wasn't playable so converted stuff got stuck into "Misc".
11:28 willkg glee: ok.  so you're saying that we shouldn't allow the conversion if we can't play the item on that platform?  is that correct?
11:29 glee willkg: I don't really mind either way, but according to what you wrote in #13419 then yes.
11:30 willkg glee: ok.  so, i'd rather not do conversions that don't work on all platforms.  my vote is you send an email to the develop list and ask about what other people think and we can go from there.
11:30 glee: and it's definitely worth testing to see if this works on lucid and maverick.  i'm pretty sure it should.

11:33 glee willkg: I don't do dev on Ubuntu so if you or possibly someone else can verify what they have that'd be good.  The ffmpeg that shipped with Debian doesn't have anything, really.
11:34 willkg glee: ok.  can you write an update in the comments for 13419?
11:35 glee willkg: Yeah
11:36 willkg cool, thanks!  sorry to be such a bore.
11:36 er, boar.
11:36 hrm...  i'm not sure which one goes with that phrase.
11:47 glee So hungry.  Better grab a bite to eat.
11:49 willkg me, too.  afk for food, coffee, etc.

17:35 Guildenstern bugzilla is down?
17:35 zanoi yes
17:35 Guildenstern :(
17:35 k
17:36 zanoi do we host bugzilla on amazon EC2?
17:36 then it might be related to this http://slashdot.org/story/11/0[…]azon-Web-Services
17:37 i desperately need more crashy bugs, if anyone has any to spare....
17:38 z3p zanoi: Guildenstern: yes, our database server is affected by that
17:38 glee zanoi: I have one.  But it's not filed yet.  Basically if you remove all the sort headers, you will get a crash.
17:39 zanoi ok, thanks. having bugs filed doesn't help atm, heh
17:39 glee Still waiting for bugzilla to come back up and file some bugs… but I guess that won't happen until a couple of hours later.
17:39 Which is a bit of a bummer.
17:41 willkg glee: it's not just a bit of a bummer, it's a total pain in the ass.  bd is also down.
17:44 zanoi glee, i can't reproduce that bug
17:44 do you mean removing all sort checkboxes in the sort menu?
17:52 is there a way to make columns resize according to content?
17:54 glee zanoi: Yes, removing all checkboxes in the Sort menu.  Saw it in both the list and standard view in the Misc section.
17:57 zanoi: Tried it with the Videos category and saw it there too - okay if you can't reproduce it, I can pastebin the crash or wait a little bit for bugzilla to come back up.
17:57 kcw resolved fixed in f50926e
17:57 zanoi err...how can I easily get a misc tab to appear?
17:57 kcw use the edit item dialog
17:57 glee Kaz is too fast.  :-)
17:57 zanoi oh
17:58 i can't reproduce it in videos either. strange
17:58 anyone has any other crash bugs to spare?
18:00 glee I'm out.  The one left in my bugzilla outbox is a UI behavior thing.
