12:31 willkg hi!
12:42 i picked up some kind of flu yesterday, so ...  i'll get some things done today, but i'm going to need a nap and more downtime than i usually do.
12:51 afk a bit.
12:53 z3p good morning
12:54 not good that you got the flu, though
13:04 willkg v1v3kn: hi!  are you vivek?
13:04 v1v3kn Yes I am
13:07 I was looking for some tips to getting started with, I tried grepping for the location of the code for disk space limits, but I could find only download rate limits.
13:13 willkg v1v3kn: hi!
13:13 v1v3kn: i responded to your bug assignment thing.  what you did is fine.  sometimes people accidentally assign themselves because (i think) they don't understand what they're doing in bugzilla.
13:13 v1v3kn: so i was just double-checking.
13:14 v1v3kn: there are a couple of pieces for the existing "maximum disk space limit" code.  the preference is in tv/lib/frontends/widgets/prefpanel.py .
13:15 v1v3kn willkg: Thanks! I'll have a look
13:15 willkg v1v3kn: then there's an implementation of get_available_bytes_for_movies in tv/(osx|windows|linux)/plat/utils.py .
13:15 v1v3kn: that's the function that returns the total free space on disk.
13:16 v1v3kn: er, that's the function that returns the amount of space available.
13:17 v1v3kn Thanks again
13:18 willkg if you have problems, feel free to ping me!

14:00 zanoi janet, do you have steps whereby I can reproduce 17289?
14:16 janet is that the Memory Error?
14:16 zanoi yes
14:16 janet I plugged in my USB drive
14:16 it has about 7000+ music files
14:16 waited for it to import
14:16 then attempted to play an item on the drive
14:17 I think the first time I tried to play, while it was importing, hence the greater confusion on the initial report
14:17 I was testing on Ubuntu Maverick
14:17 zanoi ok thanks :)
14:18 janet in order to get more items, I have a bunch of duplicates - not sure how that would affect things.
14:18 zanoi but you think it wont be possible to reproduce it without settting up an external drive with 7000 files or?
14:19 willkg z3p: you on?
14:20 zanoi willkg, i'm not sure what you want me to do for the RC
14:20 willkg, since I don't have any bugs that will make it for this RC and haven't commited anything after the deadline
14:21 willkg zanoi: do you have any bugs that need to be in this rc?
14:21 zanoi willkg, nope
14:21 willkg, well the magnet one needed to be but i fixed that for the deadline
14:21 willkg ok.  so...  then it seems like you're set for the rc.
14:21 zanoi ok, thx
14:21 willkg you could ping someone else and take on some of their bugs.
14:21 and there are a bunch that are assigned to admin.
14:21 where bunch == 8.
14:22 zanoi willkg, hmm scrap that, the bug i'm currently looking at probably needs to be done for the rc so I need to fix that
14:23 willkg ok.  is it marked as a blocker?
14:23 zanoi willkg, i just remembered that it is, yes
14:23 aude joined #miro-hackers
14:23 willkg ok, cool.
14:23 zanoi willkg, would you like me to put the appindicator/kubuntu rendingring/etc. on hold and work only on rc bugs?
14:24 willkg well, traditionally we haven't officially supported kubuntu.  so that work is your own.
14:24 the appindicator stuff is important.
14:24 which bugs are "rc" bugs specifically?
14:25 zanoi willkg, I'm not sure, but you seemed to talk about bugs that "need to be in this RC" :)
14:25 willkg i can't tell if you're asking me to micro-manage you right now or not.
14:26 zanoi willkg, nah, nevermind i'll just work a bit on both then
14:26 willkg ok.
14:26 make sure that bugs that should be done for an rc are marked as blockers.
14:27 z3p willkg: yes; don't know why I just got that notification
14:27 willkg what notification?
14:27 z3p willkg: that you sent me a message
14:28 willkg an email?  i don't think i've sent you any email in a while.
14:28 z3p willkg: no, here
14:28 * willkg is confused.
14:28 z3p the 'you on?'
14:28 willkg: I use pidgin for IRC along with everything else; it throws up a notifcation bubble when people mention my nick here
14:28 willkg z3p: oh, bah.  i'm sorry.
14:28 z3p except it delayed yours by a while
14:29 willkg z3p: i'm confusing everyone with z names.
14:29 z3p: right.  you're using maverick, right?
14:29 z3p willkg: yes
14:29 willkg z3p: can you try converting something to vorbis (audio) and let me know if it works?
14:29 z3p willkg: something that's already audio, or a movie?
14:29 willkg doesn't matter.
14:30 i'm working on 17320 and i'm puzzled.
14:30 z3p willkg: failed, "unknown encoder vorbis"
14:31 willkg ok.  totally weird.
14:31 zanoi janet, in that MemoryError bug, do you have shuffle turned on all the time during import?
14:31 willkg i made those changes in september and i usually test things like that.  maybe ffmpeg changed since then.
14:31 z3p: thanks!
14:33 janet I don't think so
14:33 willkg:  I know it worked before too
14:34 willkg ok, so i'm not a bad dev then.
14:34 janet no no, good dev.
14:35 willkg janet: i went through, tested it on the platforms i have here, and then checked in your fix.
14:35 janet: i'll ping z3p and ben about testing it on lucid and maverick.
14:35 janet are we keeping os x the same or chaging it too?
14:35 I can test on both maverick and lucid as well.
14:36 willkg i tested to make sure libvorbis worked on all three and then changed it on all three platforms.
14:36 janet And I installed natty yesterday - but I haven't really looked at it yet
14:36 ok - that's easier to keep consistent
14:40 willkg janet: have you tested choosing subtitles on osx recently?
14:40 janet I can't remember – I did on linux today. but not sure for osx.
14:40 willkg janet: i was looking at bug 17291 and figured i'd ping you to see if you knew anything off the top of your head.
14:40 ok.
14:40 i'll look into it, then.
14:41 i'm not sure how much i'm going to get done today.  i just feel terrible.
14:41 i'm going to take a break now and then see how things are going.
14:41 afk a bit.
14:42 janet I should know the answer to this but .sub files?  I always use  .srt for testing
14:42 Also - he didn't mention what file type it was, so it could be one of the non-supported on os x types.
14:43 when try to open subs for files where we don't support subs, we just don't do anything
14:59 * willkg nods.
14:59 willkg yeah, the bug is pretty bereft of information.

15:15 willkg hi!

15:15 bendk: and have you had a chance to peer review all the non-trivial changes since friday?

15:36 bendk willkg: weird, I was just testing ogg vorbis conversion and it worked for a video file, but failed for an mp3
15:37 janet bendk:  on the resume playback button on windows adn linux, I only see the first four characters of the titles then ... and the resume time.
15:37 willkg bendk: what was the failure message?
15:37 janet don't you think it should be a bit longer?
15:37 bendk janet: ahh, it doesn't expand huh?
15:37 janet autmatically ?
15:37 bendk file a ticket for that one
15:37 janet ok
15:37 bendk yeah, it should, but I realize it's not going to right now
15:38 vivek_ left #miro-hackers
15:38 bendk willkg: 1 sec, let me investigate
15:40 so ffmpeg is saying 'At least one output file must be specified'
15:40 then we're failing to parse that in parse_ffmpeg_output
15:40 and for some reason open log isn't working
15:41 willkg bendk: can you pastebin the miro log bits with the ffmpeg command line and the bits after that?
15:42 bendk: alternatively, make a bug for this.  seems fishy.
15:42 bendk ahh, it's failing in get_parameters()
15:42 which is why there's no log
15:43 willkg: so get_media_info() is mostly for videos right
15:43 ?
15:44 willkg well, sort of.  it should be callable on everything, but we're using the data it gives back to find out the resolution for video conversion.
15:45 vivek_ joined #miro-hackers
15:46 willkg bendk: i can't remember if that code has been peer reviewed.  it probably hasn't.
15:47 vivek_ left #miro-hackers

15:47 bendk so what's happening is that if I give it a ted talks video, then it parses it okay, but if I give it an mp3 it doesn't
15:47 willkg what's the mp3 file name?
15:47 bendk and that thing about "at least one output..." doesn't matter, it happens for both
15:47 heh :)
15:47 /home/ben/miro-dev-home/Videos/Miro/a/b/c/d/e/f/g/h/h.mp3
15:47 willkg heh.  :)

15:49 willkg mmm...  ok.
15:49 seems like a bug in my ffmpeg output parsing.
15:49 bendk: can you create a bug for this with the output of ffmpeg -i on that .mp3 file?
15:51 bendk willkg: http://bugzilla.pculture.org/s[…]_bug.cgi?id=17325
15:52 willkg bendk: cool, thanks.  i'll look into it.
15:56 CarlFK speaking of ffmpeg, a few weeks ago they made a change that choaks on filenames with : in them.  which surprised me that they a) are even parsing filename paths (figured that would be an os call)
15:57 and b) that they are messing with that code.  it's like 100 years old, why would it need to be touched?
15:59 willkg CarlFK: funky.

18:23 * willkg nods.
18:23 willkg cool.  that's good to know.
19:12 * z3p hopes it's not one of his changes!
19:22 zanoi z3p, do you happen to know how I can track downloads starting/finishing? are there any signals for that?
19:27 z3p zanoi: it depends on what you're trying to do
19:27 willkg: all I was doing was making a signal in the browser widget for when we start a download there
19:28 zanoi z3p, i have to track downloads in appindicator in order to recalculate the menu
19:28 willkg z3p: so you weren't doing general download start/stop signaling?  mmm...  oh well.
19:28 z3p willkg: no
19:28 zanoi i looked at all the signals and there seems to be not one download related
19:30 z3p zanoi: well, signals are widget-specific, so that wouldn't make sense
19:30 zanoi: you should be able get a viewtracker, or databasesourcetracker, for downloaded items
19:31 zanoi: then you can listen for item-added, item-changed, item-removed
19:31 zanoi z3p, ok, thx
19:31 thanks
20:00 willkg has anyone used synergy for software-based kvm before?
20:20 zanoi not me
20:49 CarlFK willkg: a few friends have - I have heard good things about it
20:51 willkg i think i'm going to try to solve my kvm problem with that and see how far i get.
20:51 it does require that network pieces are working--something i frequently have problems with.
21:24 z3p willkg: I used to
21:25 willkg: it worked pretty well, but yeah, it's more complicated w/ a flaky network setup
