10:02 willkg hi!
10:12 maggie_s joined #miro-hackers
10:46 janetPCF1 early bird willkg
10:47 willkg sort of.  more like "couldn't sleep willkg".
10:47 it's kind of nice, though.  the baby is awake and he's talking to himself.  it's really cute.
10:48 ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba....
10:49 deardiary: swapping out the old vlc extractor for the gstreamer one.
10:49 janetPCF1 it is  brain-addling hot here - I couldn't sleep at all last night - got up to go outside to see if it was cooler - but not even a slight breeze.
10:50 can't believe we are going to say Doviđenja! to vlc
10:51 willkg it's been a long time coming.
11:05 the new linux build box works super.
11:06 deardiary: think i'll spend this morning working on sandboxing the windows binary kit.

13:16 willkg janetPCF1: does thumbnail extraction work for you in master on linux?  i went as far back as v4.0 and miro extracts the thumbnail, but never updates the standard view with it.
13:17 janetPCF1: i ask because i'm seeing the same problem on windows with master.
13:17 seems like it's broken.  if so, i'll write up a bug report.
13:17 steps to reproduce are:
13:17 1. download an item from the TED feed.2
13:17 2. wait a bit.
13:17 it should switch the thumbnail to the one it extracted, but it doesn't.
13:18 janetPCF1 does it only fail for you on TED?
13:19 willkg nope.  i can't get it to work with the lifehacker feed either.
13:19 and i tried the geekbeat.tv hd feed, too.  that's not a default feed, though.  you have to subscribe to it from the guide.
13:20 the logs suggest the thumbnail is getting extracted and it looks fine when i look at it with an image viewer.
13:20 it just doesn't get updated in the interface.
13:22 janetPCF1 I think it must be intermittent
13:22 I've been working with a watched folder of small items on windows
13:22 and now that you mention it - there are no generated thumbs displaying
13:22 but.
13:23 I've seen thumbs for those items in the last few days
13:23 or maybe something slow?
13:24 willkg thumbs for items in a watched folder?
13:24 that's kind of outside my steps to reproduce.
13:24 i'm not sure what could be slow that would change from yesterday to today.
13:25 i haven't been watching podcasts in a while.  i only noticed the issue because i'm fixing the thumbnail extractor on windows.
13:26 anyhow...  i have to wait for my osx machine to build a new sandbox.  then i'll test the same steps there.
13:26 janetPCF1 z3p:  I assume it's really a matt johnson thing - but the list view on the guide is messed up -
13:26 willkg i think i'm going to write up a bug for this, though.
13:27 z3p janetPCF1: it's a morgan thing
13:27 janetPCF1 do a search and you'll see that the items are longer and overwrite the right sidebar
13:27 morgan - ok
13:27 willkg the guide has been messed up since the retheming.
13:27 janetPCF1 yes - but it comes and goes
13:27 willkg it's actually so hard to use for me that i've been tossing around creating my own mini-guide for testing.
13:27 janetPCF1 ok / messed up...
13:29 willkg morgan keeps writing in the tickets its because of the embedded browsers in miro...  but i find that weird.  i don't understand why he's not targeting the embedded browsers in miro specifically.
13:29 janetPCF1 anyway - willkg this feed has great generated thumbs: http://ringtales.com/nyrss.xml
13:30 willkg ok.  i see it working with that feed.
13:30 i wonder why it doesn't work with ted, lifehacker or geekbeat.tv.
13:33 janetPCF1 maybe they are larger files and are too slow?
13:35 willkg too slow for what?
13:38 janetPCF1 to get to the middle of the file and make the thumb
13:38 I'm just insanely guessing, you know
13:38 …and I'm melting
13:39 willkg melting sucks.
13:40 i wrote up the bug.  i think your theory sounds plausible, but i don't really want to look into it further--need to go back to windows overhaul stuff.
13:40 janetPCF1 seriously
13:40 willkg http://bugzilla.pculture.org/s[…]_bug.cgi?id=17817
13:40 add to that if i missed anything.
13:40 janetPCF1 k
13:41 willkg on that note, i'm going to go get something to eat.

15:19 sarasfox will i am doing evil thing to miro lets see if it goes boom
15:20 http://video.fosdem.org/2011/lightningtalks/ i gave this it seem to work
15:21 willkg there's an html parser that handles pages like that.  it works ok, particularly for pages structured that way.
15:22 sarasfox http://linuxbasix.com/ why does this not work so good then
15:22 willkg sarasfox: what do you expect it to pick up from that page?
15:23 sarasfox those link on the right are all rss feed
15:23 feeds
15:23 willkg so are you expecting it to subscribe to all those feeds?
15:24 sarasfox it whould nice if it made a floder in the podcast add each one
15:24 maybe check the site if new ones got add
15:25 willkg miro doesn't do that sort of thing.  i think we expect users to add feeds intentionally rather than automatically.
15:25 so the html parser is specifically to take an html page and treat it like a feed with enclosures with media items.
15:25 it's not designed to take an html page and subscribe to all the podcasts on the page.
15:27 sarasfox will does and dies
15:27 at least it becomes very undstable
15:27 willkg dies with a crash?
15:29 sarasfox ps i am have issue with ui getting very very very slow
15:30 willkg deardiary: got the extractor working.  i think i'm going to work on the binary kit stuff (for realz this time).
15:30 but first, i need some food and probably a nap.  afk a bit.
16:44 z3p we're on 2.6 everywhere now, right?
16:44 willkg z3p: yup.
16:45 z3p awesome
16:45 willkg no kidding.  :)
16:46 sarasfox bye thanks for 4.0.2

20:06 willkg CarlFK: i was watching http://python.mirocommunity.or[…]ideo/4367/playdoh and it feels like the sound is solely in the left speaker.
20:07 CarlFK oh crap.
20:07 willkg CarlFK: and that's kind of weird because i also watched the first bit of http://python.mirocommunity.or[…]with-python-and-r and it feels like the sound is solely in the right speaker.
20:07 CarlFK it is.
20:07 extra crap.
20:08 I know last nights are that way, and I made a note to fix it (i have a field in veyepar to deal with this)
20:08 and forgot to set it.
20:08 * willkg nods.
20:08 willkg sorry dude.
20:08 it's an interesting talk.
20:08 CarlFK I'll re-encode, and re upload, and we get to play with ogv
20:08 yeah.  the other 2.. meh.
20:08 willkg so those two are both blip.tv swf files in pmc.
20:09 do you want me to switch it over to the ogv files?
20:09 oh...  wait.  now i'm remembering.
20:09 you're waiting on me to get my ass in gear and fix the whole universal subtitles thing.
20:09 CarlFK lol
20:09 willkg and/or make it reproducible by humans.
20:09 CarlFK i figuired you used ogv in pmc
20:10 willkg yeah, but the carlfk feed isn't going through my "convert to ogv and ditch the weird stuff" cgi filter thing.
20:10 CarlFK got it
20:10 good. :)
