13:19 janet1 hi willkg - did you view the mountains?
13:28 z3p joined #miro-hackers
13:33 willkg janet1: one day we went to a winery in the mountains.  other than that, i didn't go outside much.
13:34 janet1: lucas shot a picture of it: http://www.flickr.com/photos/l[…]49/in/photostream
13:35 janet1 way up there - cool.
13:35 willkg it was pretty.  also pretty cold.
13:36 janet1 Heyz3p - are you peer-review guy today?  I'm pretty certain that zanoi has something in the autoupdate branch that needs peer review and to get into master.
13:36 http://bugzilla.pculture.org/s[…]_bug.cgi?id=18065
13:36 willkg z3p, janet1: how's the linux build box in the cloud?  if it's good, i'll shut this linux build box down.
13:37 janet1 https://github.com/pculture/mi[…]9c28587edd7d31d75
13:37 willkg where "this" is the one i'm pointing to, but you can't see that over irc.
13:37 janet1 right - been wanting to catch up with you about that
13:38 I still owe a test of that build - I'll do it now
13:38 and I think paul has the windows one just about ready - but we will still need to make 4.0-branch builds for a bit longer, even if the windows build box is doing master nightlies, if that's ok with you.
13:39 willkg that's fine.
13:39 janet1 And - I still have to catch up with NPR about getting a replacement mac if we use my macbook with the broken screen for the os x build box.
13:39 so still need some more time on that one too.
13:39 * willkg nods.
13:40 willkg i didn't meant to imply any rush.  i was asking mostly to verify what was in the bug and make sure i'm not misunderstanding.
13:41 janet1 I've been meaning to catch up with you about these - but you were all away and busy - to keep you posted on how things were progressing.
13:41 * willkg nods.
13:41 z3p willkg: linux box can be turned off
13:41 willkg: if you could keep the windows box doing 4.0 builds, that would be great
13:41 janet1 so I totally used the sumo selenium tests as a guide to figure out a better approach for doing the unisubs tests with webdriver.
13:42 z3p janet1: I believe it's bendk's day, but I can take a look
13:42 janet1 ok - it's been sitting for a while and I don't want it to get lost.
13:43 willkg z3p: ok.  does "keep the windows box doing 4.0 builds" require me to do anything other than not shut it off?
13:43 z3p willkg: nope
13:43 janet1 willkg:  I think it means you don't need to do master nightlies, right?
13:43 z3p:  is the windows amazon posting builds now/
13:43 ?
13:43 willkg sweet.
13:43 i'm shutting down the linux build box now.
13:44 z3p janet1: I thought it was, but apparently not
13:44 janet1 ah - ok - so ignore me willkg
13:44 willkg janet1: i may have met the people who do sumo qa.  i'm not really sure, though.
13:44 janet1 probably a whirlwind of people
13:45 willkg definitely a whirlwind of people.  plus everyone has three or more names.
13:45 janet1 z3p:  there are 3 commits in the autoupdate branch from 9/14 - I assume we need them all.
13:45 https://github.com/pculture/mi[…]ommits/autoupdate
13:51 bendk hi all
13:54 z3p morning ben
13:54 willkg my office is so much quieter now.

14:03 z3p janet1: willkg: I think I fixed cron on the win2008 box; I told it to make a build in a couple minutes, so we'll see if it works
14:03 janet1 nice

14:54 zanoi z3p: is it your review day?
14:55 z3p zanoi: no, but those commits look okay
14:55 zanoi: you should make sure it merges with master, though
14:55 zanoi kk, thx

15:29 z3p willkg: ugh, I keep getting errors when running the cronjobs (unable to load user32.dll, win32error 1114); any ideas?
15:37 willkg z3p: are you using cron from cygwin?  or something else?
15:37 z3p willkg: cron from cygwin
15:38 willkg what's kicking up the errors?  is it the nightly script?
15:38 z3p: what's kicking up the errors?  is it the nightly script?
15:39 z3p willkg: nope, cron
15:39 willkg: it's not even creating the nightly.log file
15:39 willkg oh.  ok.  so cron isn't working at all.
15:39 that should be a google-able error, i think.
15:39 z3p willkg: it's putting the error in ~/cron.log
15:39 willkg i have vague memories of having problems with cron, but i don't remember having that one.
15:39 z3p willkg: it is, I'm just not having luck finding a solution, and thought you might have hit this
15:39 * willkg nods.
15:40 willkg what version of windows is the box running?
15:44 z3p: i'm guessing (wildly) that it's a windows version-specific issue.
15:44 z3p willkg: 2008 SP2
15:44 willkg z3p: so the old build box is running windows xp sp-something-or-other.
15:44 z3p willkg: *nod*
15:44 willkg it's entirely possible there are other cron-ish things you could use instead.
15:45 i can't remember if windows has a built-in scheduler post-xp.
15:47 z3p: if there's a built-in scheduler, we might want to switch to that.
15:48 z3p willkg: hrm, possibly
15:49 willkg if that doesn't work, you could put the cron job elsewhere and have it ssh in and kick off the nightly.
15:52 z3p ah, got it!
15:53 willkg z3p: what was the problem?
15:54 z3p willkg: a permissions error; I ended up using http://cygwin.com/cygwin-ug-ne[…]l#ntsec-nopasswd3 and re-installing the cron service
15:54 willkg nice!
16:06 z3p janet1: did you test the 9-16-2011 win2008 build?
16:06 janet1 I think not
16:07 no - that was fri - i haven't downloaded a build since the one where I had to change the dll files
16:07 but if you have one now - I'll be glad to test it
16:09 bendk joined #miro-hackers
16:09 bendk willkg: did you test audio with gst-launch and manually building a pipeline?
16:09 this is for the windowsoverhaul projcet
16:10 willkg bendk: you can see the code...  it uses playbin2.
16:10 maybe i don't understand what you're asking.
16:11 bendk there's a gstreaber binary called gst-launch that lets you put together a pipeline to test it
16:11 willkg right.  are you asking if i tested pipelines?
16:11 bendk yes
16:11 I just tried it and it seems to work when you feed it testaudosource, but when I use the ogg decoder as a source
16:12 willkg i think i understand what you're asking.  i didn't test pipelines with gst-launch.  i did change the audiosink in the code.
16:12 oh, cool.
16:12 bendk so partial success, hopefully we can build from there
16:12 willkg maybe it's a problem with something that needs to be configured in the playbin, then.
16:12 bendk well, the ogg decoder source wasn't working
16:12 I think I forgot a not in that sentence :)

16:13 z3p bendk: rebased
16:13 willkg bendk: it's possible that i didn't get everything i needed to get from the gstreamer binary pack.  it's also possible that some dlls are in the wrong place.
16:16 bendk wow crazy
16:16 no I think you got it right
16:16 I need to resample to 44100 and then audio works
16:17 willkg ahhh...  interesting!
16:17 bendk maybe it's an issue with the directsoundsink not negotiating it's rate correctly
16:17 willkg that's possible.
16:18 maybe we just need something in between the two.
16:19 bendk so the original pipeline, which I copied from the directsoundsink code, included audioresample in there
16:19 which I think should make things work
16:19 but I needed to manually set the rate to 44100, so I think some component is not negotiating correctly
16:20 but I don't really know, I'm just glad I hear sounds
16:23 * willkg nods.
16:23 willkg totally.  +1 for sound.

17:21 willkg bendk: ever see this?: https://github.com/dottedmag/path.py
17:21 bendk: that's a pretty interesting abstraction for paths.
17:24 bendk I've seen that, but never used it
17:24 I agree that it's definitely interesting
17:25 willkg if you end up abstracting all the filenametype stuff, that looks like a good approach.
17:25 at first blush, anyhow.
17:46 z3p willkg: bendk: Twisted also has an path &c abstraction
17:47 bendk: okay if I merge the rebased win2008 branch?
17:49 bendk z3p: go for it
17:53 z3p oh, crap
17:53 can someone with a recent checkout force-push their Miro-4.0 branch
17:54 ?
17:54 bendk hmm
17:54 I just tried and github is hanging up on my ssh connection
17:54 janet2 i have 4.0 pretty recently - like this weeend
17:54 oh - but it's not a branch
17:55 bendk z3p: what happened?
17:55 z3p bendk: when I force-pushed my win2008 branch, I guess I didn't specify the branch
17:55 bendk okay github seems back
17:55 I push pushed 4.0 and it didn't require a force
17:55 z3p bendk: so it also force-pushed my Miro-4.0 branch
17:55 bendk: that makes sense
17:56 bendk you know, force-update was worrying me before
17:56 now it's really scaring me
17:56 maybe we should all clone the repo and only force-push into our own repositories
17:57 z3p bendk: that's probably a good idea
17:57 bendk do you know if pull requests will still be easy?
17:58 z3p bendk: I think so

18:00 willkg bendk: that's what we do.  everyone has a fork and force-pushes to their fork for development.  then does a pull request.  and when that's reviewed and ok, it gets pushed to the official master branch.
18:01 z3p okay, back to normal
18:02 janet2 z3p:  do you have a link to a windows build somewhere?
18:02 or is that what you are still working on?
18:02 z3p janet2: of what?

19:55 it took me a day of fiddling, but I finally just heard my "Mary had a little lamb" test file from the windowsoverhaul branch
19:56 willkg: so I think there are 2 issues with audio.  The first is that we need to force 44100 rate, which I finally have.  I also think we're missing a decoder, because TED talks don't have audio
19:56 but hopefully this will be working soon
19:59 willkg bendk: w00t!
